Meet your customers' demands for documentation of your products' carbon footprint—directly in Business Central.
EV CO2 Calculator is an app for Business Central developed to help companies calculate and document the carbon footprint of their products throughout the entire production process and the product's lifecycle.
How it works
The foundation of the CO2 calculation is divided into what is referred to as upstream and downstream activities. Upstream activities are, in simple terms, those that the company receives from suppliers. Downstream activities are those that the company itself adds, such as its own measurements, etc.
The EV CO2 Calculator updates the item card in Business Central with the information contained in the upstream and downstream activities. There will be cases where a supplier does not provide information about the carbon footprint, and in such cases, emission factors from external greenhouse gas protocols are used. There are nearly unlimited possibilities for adding CO2 data, allowing a company to include the footprint of sourcing the product/raw materials, storage, delivery, and the production of the item itself.
When the items are sold, the carbon footprint information from the EV CO2 Calculator is automatically included on sales orders and customer documents.
Item Card
The item card primarily shows the most commonly used sustainability fields. These include the total CO2e of the item and CO2 emission factors. When the item card is expanded, more fields are displayed. For instance, the result of the item’s downstream activities and a specification of the different greenhouse gases emitted.
The item card contains more than 20 fields related to sustainability, but by default, only the most important and commonly used are shown. These include, for example, the item’s total CO2e emissions, total emission factor, and the calculation model for Scope 3. When the sustainability panel on the item card is expanded, additional fields appear, such as the emissions from the item’s downstream activities. The remaining fields specify the emissions of other greenhouse gases besides CO2, including CH4 and N2O. These are specified either as the cumulative calculation for the item or on a per-item basis.
Structure
The CO2 distribution page shows the total CO2e emissions of the item divided between upstream and downstream activities, and aggregated through the item’s bill of materials. As with the item card, the page by default contains only the most necessary fields. If a more detailed specification is desired, additional fields can be added to the page, specifying, for example, the distribution of CO2, CH4, and N2O for both upstream and downstream activities.
Sales Order
When sales orders are created, the sold item or service’s CO2e emissions, emission factor, and calculation model methodology are added directly to the sales line and can be easily printed on, for example, sales invoices and order confirmations.
In short, the EV CO2 Calculator is your app for Business Central, enabling you to calculate and document the carbon footprint of your products throughout their lifecycle, while also meeting your customers' growing demands for such documentation.
